Challenge: Develop a “happy-looking, non-scary” COVID signage program to meet County Health Code requirements for on-campus K–12 learning.

Design Goal: Design a fun, cohesive, kid-friendly theme for COVID-related campus signage while simply communicating mandatory health information.

Solution: Use bold, simple graphics with flat areas of color, along with various typographic and recurring design elements such as rules, backgrounds, and emoji smile faces in order to maintain consistent look and feel for each sign. Created a wide array of emoji “expressions” to generate enthusiasm and interest, especially among the K–5 students.
